Stephanie R. Thomas is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at Cornell University's ILR School. She specializes in microeconomics, labor economics, and personnel economics, with a focus on compensation equity, wage disparities, and discrimination. Dr. Thomas earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the New School for Social Research.
She serves as Faculty-in-Residence for Low Rises 6&7 Community, fostering first-year student engagement through programs focused on community care and academic support. Her research examines pay equity audits, gender wage gaps, and OFCCP compliance, with notable contributions to publications like AEA Papers and Proceedings and The OFCCP Digest.
Dr. Thomas has presented widely on topics including student engagement strategies, pay transparency, and executive compensation. Her awards include the NYU Outstanding Teaching Award (1998) and the Edith and Henry Johnson Dissertation Award (1997). She has also authored books like Compensating Your Employees Fairly (2013), providing practical guidance on internal pay equity practices.
Her professional activities include leadership in the ILR School’s Institute for Compensation Studies (2013-2016) and over 50 presentations at conferences ranging from the American Economic Association to industry-specific groups like the Conference Board and WorldatWork.
