Stephanie Morano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Special Education at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development. Her office is located in Bavaro Hall on the Charlottesville campus, where she maintains office hours by appointment. She holds a Ph.D. from Penn State University (2017), a Master's degree from The City University of New York, and a Bachelor's degree from Montclair State University.
Dr. Morano's research focuses on two primary areas: developing effective mathematics interventions for students with disabilities and improving preparation methods for special education teachers. Her work emphasizes evidence-based instructional strategies in mathematics, special education practices, and teacher development programs. She directs the High-Leverage Practices for Special Education Project VERIFY, which develops frameworks for effective special education instruction.
Her scholarly publications demonstrate consistent focus on mathematics education interventions, teacher preparation methodologies, and special education strategies. Recent work shows growing emphasis on STEM integration for students with disabilities, paraeducator professional development, and innovative instructional techniques for mathematical concept mastery. Her research employs diverse methodologies including single-case designs, national surveys, and intervention studies.
Dr. Morano contributes to graduate programs including the Master of Teaching in Special Education and Bachelor of Science in Education programs. She supervises paraeducator training initiatives and develops curricular resources for special education teacher preparation.
