Stephanie Milling is a Professor and serves as the Department Chair of Theatre and Dance, as well as the Head of Dance Education at the University of South Carolina's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Dance and an M.A. in Women’s Studies from Texas Woman’s University, an M.A. in Dance Education from New York University, and a B.A. in French from Texas Christian University.
Her research focuses on intersections of Women’s Studies and Dance, with expertise in assessment, advocacy, and pedagogy. Her creative work has been presented at venues such as Joyce Soho (New York City), D.U.M.B.O. Dance Festival (Brooklyn), and Piccolo Spoleto. She has contributed to journals like Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice.
Scientific awards and leadership roles:
- Received South Carolina Dance Association’s Advocacy Award (2012)
- Served as President of South Carolina Arts Alliance
- Board Member, South Carolina Arts Alliance and Americans for the Arts Arts Education Council
She has authored South Carolina’s 2010 and 2017 Dance Education Standards, edited the 2010 Curriculum Support Document, and served on editorial boards for Journal of Movement Arts Literacy, Dance Education in Practice, and Arts Education Policy Review.
