Stephanie Majcher

Stephanie Majcher is a Senior Lecturer in Sanskrit at the Australian National University (ANU), specializing in Vedic texts, South Asian religious cultures, and digital manuscript studies. She previously held roles at the University of Sydney as a lecturer, tutor, and research consultant. Her research interrogates modern textual analysis methods through early South Asian perspectives on language, particularly in Vedic literature. She is a key contributor to the Journal of Gandhāran Buddhist Texts and the ANU Press Languages and Linguistics Editorial Board.

Her work focuses on digitizing ancient Buddhist manuscripts from Gandhāra, advocating for 'digital repatriation' to democratize access to cultural heritage. She co-leads the ANUBhasha Project (2021–2024), which digitizes and repatriates South Asian texts. Her research interests include textual analysis, manuscript cultures, and the intersection of traditional and modern linguistic approaches.

Publications span Vedic studies, Buddhist manuscripts, and scholarly reviews, emphasizing interdisciplinary methods. Awards include a University Medal for her BA Honors at the University of Sydney. She actively teaches Sanskrit since 2012 and collaborates internationally on digital humanities projects.
