Christopher Diamond is a Lecturer in Hindi at the School of Culture, History & Language, Australian National University. He holds a PhD in South Asian Languages & Literature from the University of Washington, alongside a Master's and Bachelor's in related fields. His research focuses on medieval North Indian poet Vidyapati’s literary legacy, exploring how his vernacular poetry influenced regions like Nepal, Bengal, and Bihar. He also studies broader Bhakti literary traditions and epic adaptations in Eastern India.

Research interests include multilingual literary traditions in Hindi-Urdu, Maithili, and Bengali, alongside Hinduism and performance studies. His work engages with manuscript analysis, religious appropriation, and linguistic evolution. He has conducted fieldwork across India, particularly in West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
Recent publications analyze Vidyapati’s poetic afterlife, Hindi program advocacy in Australia, and critical reviews of Bengali and Hindu literary works. He co-leads the ANUBhasha Project, digitizing South Asian texts for repatriation.
