Stephanie L. DeMora is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Stony Brook University. She previously served as the Arlin M. and Neysa Adams Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Public Policy Center. Her research focuses on psychological drivers of political engagement and behavior, particularly among underrepresented groups. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside, along with MA and BA degrees from the University of Arkansas, and an AA from Gloucester County College.
Her work appears in top journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, British Journal of Political Science, and Political Behavior. She co-authored Motivating Black Turnout with Celebrations of Community (NYU Press, in press) and contributed to The Cambridge Handbook of Political Psychology. Her research explores topics such as voter mobilization strategies, partisan attitudes, and the intersection of religion and public health compliance.
DeMora’s teaching includes courses on political psychology, electoral behavior, and statistical methods. She is affiliated with the Political Psychology Lab and Behavioral Political Economy Lab at Stony Brook, focusing on experimental research and policy-relevant inquiries. Her recent projects examine the impact of social media on vaccination attitudes and the psychological underpinnings of support for refugees among conservative voters.
