Bernard L. Fraga is the Ann and Michael Hankin Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Emory University and faculty coordinator of the Latinx Studies Initiative. He specializes in American elections, focusing on racial/ethnic politics, voter turnout dynamics, and the impact of election laws on political behavior. Fraga holds a Ph.D. in Government and Social Policy from Harvard University (2013), an A.M. from Harvard (2011), and a B.A. in Political Science and Linguistics from Stanford University (2008).
His research examines how racial/ethnic identity and context influence political participation, with a focus on persistent disparities in voter turnout among racial/ethnic groups. His groundbreaking 2018 book *The Turnout Gap* provides a comprehensive historical analysis of voting patterns across White, Black, Latinx, and Asian American communities, documenting systemic barriers to political engagement. Fraga has also studied candidate selection processes, youth voter mobilization, and the effects of voter suppression tactics.
His work appears in top journals like the *American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science*, and *Stanford Law Review*. His research has been supported by major foundations including the Carnegie Corporation and National Science Foundation. Notable awards include the APSA Emerging Scholar Award and MPSA Latina/o Caucus Early Career Award.
