Erin Cassese is a Professor in the Department of Political Science & International Relations at the University of Delaware. She holds a PhD from Stony Brook University (2007) and joined UD in 2018. Her research focuses on voter psychology, gender dynamics in political campaigns, and media representation of political candidates. She currently serves as Associate Director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Political Communication and advises the RSO Women in Law and Politics. Additionally, she is a Senior Researcher at the Geena Davis Institute, contributing to studies on gender representation in media and politics.
Her academic work spans electoral behavior, political communication, and the intersection of gender with political processes. Notable areas include analyzing media framing of female candidates, the role of gender in voter decision-making, and the impact of stereotypes on political attitudes. She teaches courses on political psychology, campaigns, and social movements. Her research has been published in leading journals like Politics & Gender and Political Psychology.
Professor Cassese actively engages in public scholarship, contributing to media analyses of contemporary elections. Her recent work examines polarization around abortion attitudes and the 2020 Democratic primary’s media narratives. She emphasizes mentorship, exemplified through collaborative writing groups for female faculty and student involvement in the Center for Political Communication’s data initiatives.
