معرفی
Stephanie J.B. Fretham is an Associate Professor of Biology and Director of the Neuroscience Program at Luther College. She teaches courses in Human Anatomy, Experimental Neuroscience, Toxicology, and Human Dissection. Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases using the C. elegans model system to study iron regulation, insulin signaling, and their roles in nervous system health. She holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. in Biology and Psychology from Luther College.
Education:
- Ph.D., Neuroscience, University of Minnesota
- B.A., Biology and Psychology, Luther College
Research Interests: Dr. Fretham investigates how genetic and environmental factors interact in neurodegenerative diseases. Her lab uses C. elegans to explore iron metabolism’s impact on neuronal health and the role of insulin signaling pathways. Key topics include neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, toxicology, and molecular biology. Her work bridges basic research with implications for human conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS.
Labs/Teams: Students in her lab conduct genetic, biochemical, and behavioral experiments to study nervous system function and dysfunction, leveraging C. elegans as a model organism for understanding cellular processes critical to human health.
