Stephanie Hodgson is a Lecturer and PhD Candidate in the Innovation Studies group at Utrecht University’s Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. She holds a first-class Master’s degree from King’s College London and is currently completing her PhD in collaboration with the University of Southampton (UK).

Her research focuses on the application of circular economy principles in service industries, particularly the hair and beauty sector. She investigates challenges related to customer experience, health and safety, and operational realities, aiming to bridge theoretical frameworks with practical implementation.
Research Themes: Circular economy, stakeholder engagement, sustainability in services, urban innovation hubs (e.g., Werkspoorkwartier in Utrecht), and qualitative research methods.
Publications: Highlighted by a 2024 review article in Sustainable Production and Consumption, analyzing circular strategies in the hairdressing industry.
Teaching: Instructs the course Business, Sustainability and Innovation (GEO3-2122) and supervises Global Sustainability Science bachelor’s theses.
Projects: Involved in the international CIRCULAR project, studying governance factors in circular economy innovation across Norway, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
