Stephanie E. McMahon is a Professor of Painting and Drawing & Painting at Alfred University's School of Art and Design. She holds an MFA from The University of Texas at Austin (2004) and a BFA from Alfred University (1998). Her work explores environmental themes through layered, abstract paintings that interrogate space, time, and materiality. Notable exhibitions include 'Close to Me' (2016) and 'Local Horizon' (2021), a collaboration with Bill Parry’s 'Ring of Trees' installation. Awards include the Memorial Art Gallery Award of Excellence (2015) and grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (2021).
Her research bridges studio practice and critical theory, with publications in New American Paintings and Stone Canoe. She has been featured in exhibitions nationwide, including the(SCOPE New York Art Fair) and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her 2021 Local Horizon project, funded via the Decentralization Program, reinterpreted Bill Parry’s environmental art legacy through site-specific installations.
