Dr Cowan's research focuses on improving lifestyle behaviors in high-risk female populations, including those with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), infertility, and during menopause. Her doctoral research explored the use of anti-inflammatory diets to improve cardiometabolic outcomes in post-menopausal women. She aims to combat misinformation, optimize health professional education, and co-design practical digital tools for lifestyle management in women's health. Stephanie is passionate about translating research into accessible, practical tools that empower women to make informed health decisions.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on women's health conditions, particularly PCOS and infertility. Her research employs systematic review methodologies, mixed-methods approaches, and implementation science to bridge the gap between evidence and practice. The work spans nutritional interventions, lifestyle management strategies, and digital health solutions tailored to women's specific health needs.
Dr Cowan serves as Primary Chief Investigator for the MEDPREP study (2023-2025), which examines the efficacy and feasibility of a Mediterranean diet on fertility and reproductive outcomes in subfertile couples seeking IVF treatment.
As a clinical dietitian, Dr Cowan continues to provide dietetic care specializing in gastrointestinal and women's health within the private sector, maintaining a strong connection between research and clinical practice.
