Stephanie Bosch Santana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature at UCLA College. She holds a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley (2005), M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University (2011, 2015). Her research focuses on African literature across postcolonial, transnational, and digital frameworks, with special attention to spatial studies and media innovations. She previously taught at the University of Michigan (2015-2016) and Harvard University (2010-2015 as Teaching Fellow).
Her current book project redefines African literary studies through analysis of South African, Malawian, Zimbabwean, and Zambian fiction since the 1950s, examining how authors use popular media to reimagine cross-border connections. Recent work explores digital literature in Africa and its diaspora, interrogating issues like platform accessibility and online/offline networks.
Her publications span topics from migrant narratives in postcolonial detective fiction to digital literary networks, consistently bridging traditional and emerging media. She has contributed to guest-edited journal issues and authored review essays on African literary theory. Languages include Chichewa, French, and basic Zulu.
Teaching experience includes courses on comparative literature, postcolonial studies, and digital humanities. Her work has been presented at academic conferences including ASAUK, with a focus on redefining Pan-Africanist discourses through digital and spatial frameworks.
