Stephan Durham is the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Outreach and holds the Juneau Construction Company Professorship in Civil Engineering at the University of Georgia. He is affiliated with the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural & Mechanical Engineering. His work focuses on civil engineering innovations, urbanization challenges, and engineering failures. Research interests include sustainable materials for construction, pavement design, bridge asset management, and the use of recycled materials in infrastructure. He leads interdisciplinary projects funded by GDOT and other agencies, with a strong emphasis on practical applications in transportation and environmental resilience.
Dr. Durham has received the Georgia ASCE President’s Award for his contributions to the field. His research integrates advanced technologies like machine learning and deep learning for traffic analysis and material characterization. He collaborates closely with industry partners to translate academic findings into actionable solutions for public infrastructure challenges.
His academic leadership includes advancing student success initiatives and outreach programs. He has developed training modules for agency-wide software programs and contributed to policy frameworks for sustainable construction practices. Dr. Durham’s lab focuses on innovative materials testing, forensic pavement analysis, and disaster-resilient infrastructure design.
