Dr. Lee’s research focuses on sustainable civil infrastructure, including low-carbon construction materials, pavement recycling, and digital image processing for automated pavement crack detection. His expertise spans warm mix asphalt, ultra-high performance concrete, and polymer-based construction materials, aiming to enhance durability and environmental performance of transportation systems.
His leadership extends globally through active roles in major professional societies. He currently serves as President of the International Society of Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructures (ISMaRTI) and the Korea-American Society of Civil and Environmental Engineers (KSCEEA). He is Chairman of the International Conference on Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Constructed Infrastructure Facilities (MAIREINFRA) and leads the TRB Subcommittee on Computer Imaging Technology for Pavement Evaluation.
Dr. Lee’s scholarly contributions are recognized through his membership in the National Academy of Engineering of Korea and editorial roles in the ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems and the International Journal of Pavements. His work has significantly influenced pavement evaluation technologies and sustainable infrastructure practices.
He advises no students listed in the profile but leads the Laboratory for Advanced Construction Technology, where cutting-edge research in construction materials and infrastructure resilience is conducted. His grants and research initiatives focus on sustainable, resilient, and intelligent transportation infrastructure systems.
The Laboratory for Advanced Construction Technology serves as a hub for innovation in construction materials, digital monitoring, and life-cycle performance of civil infrastructure. It supports interdisciplinary collaboration across engineering, policy, and technology sectors.
