Danny Xiao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He is actively involved in teaching and research related to construction materials and transportation systems. His professional affiliations include the Transportation Research Board (TRB), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Wisconsin Highway Research Program (WHRP).
Dr. Xiao's research focuses on pavement materials, including concrete, asphalt, and aggregates, with an emphasis on durability under deicing chemicals and the use of sealers for protection. His work supports infrastructure asset management and is funded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He serves as faculty advisor for the American Concrete Institute student chapter and contributes to technical oversight in state-level transportation research.
He is a licensed Professional Engineer and maintains active roles in national and state-level engineering organizations, including the TRB Standing Committees on Design and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements (AKP20) and Asphalt Pavements (AKP30), as well as the ASCE Wisconsin Section.
Dr. Xiao earned his doctorate from the University of Arkansas and previously worked as a Research Associate at the Louisiana Transportation Research Center and the Arkansas Department of Transportation before joining UW-Platteville in Fall 2015.
