Mi Geum Chorzepa is a Professor at the University of Georgia, specializing in civil infrastructure, smart materials, and structural engineering. Her work focuses on advancing bridge and pavement engineering through innovative materials and data-driven solutions. She leads the UGA STRENGTH Laboratory, which develops sustainable infrastructure solutions and applies machine learning to infrastructure management. Key areas include UHPC (Ultra-High-Performance Concrete) applications, bridge asset valuation, and predictive modeling of structural performance.
Her research integrates machine learning for time-series analysis of bridge conditions and anomaly detection in traffic data. She collaborates with GDOT on projects involving recycled materials, pavement design, and training modules for software adoption in infrastructure management. Her contributions span geotechnical analysis, risk assessment for coastal bridges, and forensic investigations of pavement failures.
Recent work emphasizes sustainability metrics for county bridges, dynamic load mitigation, and thermal behavior in skewed bridges. She has developed frameworks for predicting bridge lifecycle performance and optimizing maintenance strategies using contingency tables and game theory approaches.
Her lab’s efforts include the Engineering Research and Education Center in Athens, GA, where advanced materials testing and structural health monitoring are conducted. Training programs and collaborative projects with industry partners underscore her commitment to bridging academic research with practical engineering applications.
