Dr. Stefano Valente is a Principal Investigator in the Etymologika project and a member of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 950 'Manuscript Cultures in Asia, Africa and Europe' at the University of Hamburg. His work spans the study of Greek lexica, Byzantine scholarship, and the transmission of Aristotelian texts through manuscripts.
His research focuses on
- medieval and Renaissance manuscript cultures, particularly Greek lexicographic works like the Etymologicum Gudianum
- Byzantine natural philosophy, including analyses of Nikephoros Blemmydes' Epitome Physica
- interdisciplinary approaches to manuscript analysis, education, and knowledge transfer
Dr. Valente's recent publications explore the materiality of teaching manuscripts, collaborative textual reconstruction, and cross-cultural lexicographic interactions.
