Dr. Orna Almogi is a researcher in the Department of Indian and Tibetan Studies at the University of Hamburg, specializing in Tibetan Buddhist manuscripts and xylographs. Her affiliations include the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 950 'Manuscript Cultures in Asia, Africa and Europe' (2011–2019) and the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC).
Her research focuses on:
- Tibetan manuscript traditions and canonical collections
- Doxographical frameworks and textual authentication
- Material analysis of inks, pigments, and paper
- Transcultural transmission of Buddhist texts
- Preservation of endangered manuscript cultures
Key publications examine the rNying ma rgyud 'bum collection, multispectral imaging techniques, and regional variations in Tibetan manuscript practices. She received the 2023 ERC Synergy Grant - Intellexus for mapping Indic and Tibetic Buddhist text corpora. In 2013, she co-organized the international conference 'Manuscript and Xylograph Traditions in the Tibetan Cultural Sphere'.
