Stefano MASO is a Lecturer in Greek and Roman Philosophy for the Theatre at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, affiliated with the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage. He previously held the role of Full Professor in the History of Ancient Philosophy (PHIL-05/B) from 2020 to 2024, and has been a contract professor since 2001, researcher since 2005, and associate professor since 2015.
His research focuses on ancient philosophy, particularly the Sophists, Presocratics, Plato, Aristotle, Epicureanism, Stoicism, and the philosophical categories of "risk," "responsibility," and "tragedy." He has directed the "Lexis Ancient Philosophy" series and served as editor-in-chief of the journal Lexis. Poetics, Rhetoric and Communication in the Classical Tradition. He has coordinated research initiatives like the PhAVE research group and international agreements between Ca' Foscari, Bordeaux, and Genoa Universities.
His teaching includes courses such as Greek and Roman Philosophy in the Theatre and History of Hellenistic and Roman Philosophy I. He has participated in Erasmus+ collaborations and served on editorial boards, including the Italian Philosophical Society and SISFA. Grants include funding from the Fondo Sociale Europeo and MIUR for projects on philosophical consultancy and Aristotle's theory of science.
