She is a member of the Presidency Board of the Società Italiana di Marketing (SIM) and contributes to editorial boards of top-tier marketing journals.
Dr. Borghini earned her PhD from Bocconi University in 2001. Her research focuses on symbolic consumption, consumer practices, and the relationship between consumers, brands, and retail spaces. Current projects explore themes such as children’s consumption patterns, experiences of opera lovers, and consumer behavior among individuals with physical disabilities. She employs consumer culture theory and ethnographic methods in her studies, emphasizing qualitative research.
Her teaching responsibilities include courses on marketing research, consumer behavior, and qualitative methods at the graduate and doctoral levels. Her work bridges theoretical insights with practical applications, particularly in retail branding, B2B marketing, and visitor experience design.
Borghini’s research has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of Marketing. Her studies frequently address the sociocultural dimensions of consumption, including themed retail environments (e.g., American Girl Place), street art’s commercial rhetoric, and the evolving forms of ownership (buying, renting, sharing).
Her academic leadership includes editorial roles and program direction, reflecting her commitment to advancing both scholarly and pedagogical excellence in marketing. She collaborates internationally, evidenced by co-authored works with scholars like John F. Sherry Jr. and Robert V. Kozinets.
