Stefan Muthesius is an Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia (UEA), specializing in the history of architecture, urban design, and applied arts from the 18th to 20th centuries. He retired from UEA after teaching there since 1968 and remains affiliated with the School of History and Art History, as well as the Centre for European and American Art History. His expertise spans architectural history, housing studies, and the architectural development of UEA's campus.

His research focuses on the evolution of domestic and public architecture, including terraced housing, post-war public housing, and modernist design. His notable works include The English Terraced House (1982), which won the Sir Banister Fletcher Prize, and Tower Block (1994), co-authored with Miles Glendinning, which earned the Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion. Recent contributions include Towers for the Welfare State (2020), exploring British multi-storey housing from 1945–1970.
He has collaborated on books such as Concrete and Open Skies (2001), analyzing UEA’s architectural legacy. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in urban sustainability and cultural preservation.
