Stacey Cohen, MD is a Professor in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch and the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, specializing in high-risk gastrointestinal cancers and genetic biomarker research.
Education:
- MD, University of Michigan (2008)
- BS in Biology, Brandeis University (2004)
Her research focuses on inherited genetic syndromes like Lynch syndrome, tumor mutation profiling, and germline genetics' impact on cancer outcomes. She pioneers the use of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and next-generation sequencing to develop prognostic biomarkers and tumor organoids for personalized therapy testing, with emphasis on colorectal cancer progression and treatment prediction.
Dr. Cohen leads multiple clinical trials including ctDNA-based surveillance for colorectal cancer (TEMPUS CRC), organ-preserving rectal cancer strategies, and biomarker studies for metastatic disease. These efforts operate within Fred Hutch's Cancer Consortium, which manages over 750 active trials enrolling 7,000 participants annually.
As a clinician at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, she treats patients with colorectal, pancreatic, and liver cancers while translating genomic discoveries into clinical practice, as highlighted in her 2020 ASCO presentation and 2018 colorectal cancer awareness initiatives.
