Stacey A. Cohen

Dr. Stacey A. Cohen is a Professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a Professor in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. She is a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, with expertise in colorectal, pancreatic, and hereditary cancers, including early-onset cases.

Her educational background includes:

• Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan (2008)
• Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center (2011)
• Fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington (2014)

Dr. Cohen's research focuses on the role of genetics in gastrointestinal cancer development and treatment response. She investigates inherited syndromes like Lynch syndrome, tumor mutation profiling, and germline genetics' impact on cancer outcomes to enable personalized treatment strategies that maximize efficacy while minimizing side effects.

Current projects include evaluating candidate genes for cancer progression, developing next-generation sequencing assays for biomarker discovery, assessing CpG Island Methylator Phenotype (CIMP), characterizing Familial Colorectal Cancer Type X, and creating tumor organoids for patient-specific drug testing.

Dr. Cohen has received Seattle Met's Top Doctors award for exceptional patient care multiple times, including in 2023.

At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, she collaborates with a multidisciplinary care team including physicians, nurses, dietitians, and social workers to provide comprehensive cancer care across clinical sites in South Lake Union and UW Medical Center – Montlake.
