Srinivas Muvvala is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, where he serves as Associate Program Director for the Addiction Psychiatry Residency and Medical Director of the Substance Use & Addiction Treatment Unit (SATU) at the Connecticut Mental Health Center. He also holds positions as Medical Director of the South Central Crisis Service at Yale Behavioral Health Services and Fellow of Davenport College.
Dr. Muvvala completed his medical education at Andhra Medical College, NTR University of Health Sciences (2002), followed by an MPH from West Virginia University (2005), residency in General Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine (2009), and Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine (2010).
His primary research and clinical interests focus on investigating and disseminating optimal therapies for opioid, tobacco, and alcohol use disorders, with particular emphasis on comprehensive treatment for individuals with co-occurring addiction and psychiatric disorders. His recent work has concentrated on neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, medication-assisted treatment implementation, and international addiction education collaborations. His research spans addiction pharmacology, perinatal addiction effects, and implementation science for integrating substance use treatment into various healthcare settings.
Dr. Muvvala's publications demonstrate a strong focus on addiction medicine with particular attention to opioid use disorder treatments, neonatal outcomes following prenatal opioid exposure, and implementation strategies for medication-assisted treatment in diverse healthcare settings including psychiatric hospitals and HIV clinics. His work bridges clinical practice, research, and medical education with growing international collaboration.
