Professor Spyros Maniatis is an Honorary Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law and former Head of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) until 2018. He has driven CCLS's growth into an internationally recognized institution with over 1,200 students globally. Under his leadership, CCLS expanded its programs to Paris, Singapore, and Piraeus, and introduced specializations in shipping, energy, insurance, art, and regulatory law.
His research focuses on trade mark law, domain names, and competition law. Key contributions include Trade Marks in Europe (Oxford UP, 2016) and foundational works on trademark jurisprudence. He collaborates with professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and global institutions such as WIPO.
Professor Maniatis has pioneered multi-jurisdictional legal education, notably co-developing the ESCP Europe MBA/LLM and distance-learning programs. His work bridges theory and practice, influencing EU trade mark policy and international IP frameworks.
