Spencer Bradshaw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Utah State University. He holds a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University (2014), an MS from Brigham Young University (2011), and a BS in Psychology from the University of Utah (2008). His research focuses on the neuropsychology of trauma, addiction recovery, and systemic family dynamics. Key areas include brain recovery mechanisms in AUD/SUD patients and their family members, as well as family systems approaches to chronic illness management.
Bradshaw is a Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT, 2018) and holds multiple professional licenses, including Utah LMFT (2020) and Texas LMFT credentials. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles on topics like prefrontal cortex activation in recovery, attachment trajectories in couples, and multifamily group interventions for addiction-affected families.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as 'Addictions and the Family,' 'Structural Equation Modeling,' and 'Neuropsychology of Interpersonal Relationships.' He has mentored numerous graduate students in Human Development and Family Studies, focusing on clinical and research training in family therapy and addiction studies.
His research integrates neuroscientific methods (e.g., fNIRS) with systemic family therapy theory, exploring how biological and relational factors interact in recovery processes. Current projects examine grief dynamics in bereaved parents and the role of protective behavioral strategies in mitigating substance use risks.
