Soren Sorensen is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Clark University, serving as Director of Screen Studies. He joined Clark in 2019 and teaches documentary and narrative filmmaking, managing the Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design’s sound stage, computer lab, and screening room. His academic background includes an M.F.A. in Film (Vermont College of Fine Arts), M.A. in Art (Rhode Island College), and B.A. in Music (Berklee College of Music).
His research focuses on documentary film production emphasizing social issues, visual art, and music. Notable works include My Father’s Vietnam (2016), With Dad (2020), and Omar Sosa’s 88 Well-Tuned Drums (2022). These films have garnered awards at international festivals and critical acclaim in publications like DownBeat and Jazzwise.
Recent grants include funding from the Estate of Selma B. Geller (2022) and the Higgins School for Humanities (2022). Sorensen’s work bridges artistic innovation with academic rigor, supporting student filmmakers through hands-on production courses and facility management.
His current projects include preparing the 2024 release of Omar Sosa’s 88 Well-Tuned Drums via Indie Rights, expanding his Specialty Foods of Rhode Island series, and advancing agricultural documentaries like Harvesting Rhode Island.
