Soraya Hamdaoui serves as a Teaching Fellow in Political Theory at the University of Warwick, where she teaches United States Foreign Policy (PO379) and Topics in Political Theory (PO2E2) for the 2025-2026 academic year. Her academic role operates within the broader discipline of Political Science, emphasizing theoretical and empirical methodologies.
Her primary research investigates anti-populism through discourses that delegitimise populists and their supporters, framing populism as a political 'disease' requiring societal 'repair' strategies. She analyzes pathologization narratives and accommodative tactics employed by anti-populists across the United States, Latin America, France, Italy, and the UK, highlighting how proposed 'medicine' seeks to heal post-populist political landscapes.
Complementing this, she examines Maghreb politics (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia), focusing on colonial French heritage legacies, contemporary foreign policy frameworks, and soft power development. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges Political Theory, Comparative Politics, and International Relations, with specialized expertise in Populism Studies and North African political dynamics.
