Sophie Louise Roland serves as Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Performance Studies Division at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, University of Western Ontario. She is currently scheduled for administrative leave from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.
Hailed for her 'excellence, purity of voice and emotional intensity,' Roland maintains an active international performance career with leading roles including Carmen, Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto, Maurya in Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea, and Dido in Purcell's Dido and Æneas. She has performed with prestigious organizations including Ente Concerti di Iglesias, American Opera Theater, Orchestra London, and Opera York, and has appeared with major orchestras across North America.
Roland founded the Canadian Operatic Arts Academy (COAA) in 2009 and established the Accademia Europea Dell'Opera (AEDO) in 2011 in collaboration with the Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini in Lucca, Italy. These comprehensive training programs educate singers, pianists, and directors for professional opera careers, featuring faculty from La Scala, Juilliard, the Metropolitan Opera, and other leading institutions.

Under Roland's leadership, hundreds of young artists from around the world have participated in these programs before embarking on professional careers. Her students have achieved significant success in competitions including Metropolitan Opera Auditions and NATS competitions.
