Sophie Allen is a Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy at St Peter’s College, a Supernumerary Fellow in Philosophy at Harris Manchester College, and a member of the Philosophy Faculty at the University of Oxford. She holds an MA (Honours) from the University of Glasgow and a Doctorate from the University of London. Her academic roles include teaching and research, alongside outreach activities to broaden participation in philosophy and encourage admissions to Oxford.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on metaphysics, the philosophy of physics, and the nature of consciousness. She investigates foundational questions about reality, the relationship between philosophy and science, and methodologies for evaluating metaphysical theories. Her book A Critical Introduction to Properties (2016) critically examines central topics in metaphysics.
Teaching: She teaches first-year courses such as Logic and Frege’s Foundations of Arithmetic, as well as advanced topics including Knowledge and Reality, Philosophy of Mind, and Philosophy of Mathematics. She also contributes to the Philosophy Faculty’s lecture series on Leibniz and introductory logic.
Outreach and Engagement: Allen is committed to broadening participation in philosophy and encouraging admissions to Oxford. She has appeared on media platforms like The One Show to discuss philosophical topics, including the ethics of charitable giving.
