Dr Nicholas Waghorn is a Non-Stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy at St. Peter’s College, University of Oxford, and a Tutor for Visiting Students. He holds a Research Fellowship in Philosophy at Blackfriars Hall. Previously, he served as Director of Studies and Fellow in Philosophy at St. Benet’s Hall until its closure in 2022. His teaching spans diverse topics, including General Philosophy, Knowledge and Reality, and specialized modules on Ancient Philosophy such as Plato’s Republic and Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics.
Waghorn’s research focuses on metaphysics, epistemology, metaphilosophy, and value theory, with a particular emphasis on justifying fundamental philosophical practices like rationality and conceptual usage (e.g., 'thing,' 'reality,' 'existence'). He also explores existential questions, such as life’s meaning and the nature of death, linking these to broader philosophical implications.
His work has been published in journals like TheoLogica, Acta Analytica, and Metaphilosophy, alongside a notable book on existential meaning and nothingness. He has held academic roles at Exeter College and contributed to interdisciplinary discussions on philosophical methodology.
