Dr Sonya Taylor is a Lecturer in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on molecular biology, parasitology, and genetics, with a particular emphasis on apicomplexan parasites like Plasmodium and Toxoplasma gondii, and kinetoplastid parasites such as Trypanosoma brucei. She also explores virtual reality applications in education.
- Current Research Interests
- Gene regulation in malaria parasites
- Host-pathogen interactions in Toxoplasma
- Genetic mapping of Trypanosoma
- VR-based experiential learning
Dr Taylor has received multiple awards, including travel scholarships for parasitology conferences and the 2003 Excellence in Science Award from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
- Scientific Awards
- 2007 International Congress on Toxoplasmosis Travel Scholarship
- 2006 Keystone Symposia Travel Scholarship
- 2003 Excellence in Science Award, American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
Her recent publications highlight advancements in parasitic molecular mechanisms and educational technology. Grants from Wellcome Trust, Leverhulme Trust, and Scottish Crucible have supported her work in malaria research and signaling dynamics in parasites.
