Indrajit Lahiri

Dr. Indrajit Lahiri is a Lecturer in Electron Microscopy at the School of Biosciences, University of Sheffield (2022–present). He previously held positions as an Assistant Professor at IISER Mohali, India (2019–2022) and Postdoctoral Researcher roles at UC San Diego (2015–2019) and Harvard University (2014–2015). He earned his PhD from SUNY Albany, USA (2008–2014).

His research focuses on genome replication, repair, and compaction in Apicomplexan parasites (e.g., Plasmodium falciparum, Toxoplasma gondii), targeting the apicoplast organelle. Techniques include electron cryomicroscopy, next-generation sequencing, and biochemical assays. His lab investigates parasite DNA transactions to identify therapeutic targets against malaria and toxoplasmosis.

Key research areas include structural biology of DNA polymerases, actin filament dynamics, and motor protein regulation (e.g., dynein-Lis1 interactions). He has published extensively on enzyme mechanisms, structural insights, and disease-related proteins like LRRK2 in Parkinson’s disease.

Lahiri advises PhD student Anamika Kumari (BBSRC White Rose DTP) and collaborates with global institutions. His work bridges structural biology, parasitology, and biophysics, contributing to understanding pathogen biology and drug discovery.
