Dr Eleanor Cull is an Associate Professor in Human Biology at the School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham. With a background in parasitology, her research focuses on gene regulation in Plasmodium falciparum, metabolism in malaria parasites, and host cell invasion mechanisms in Toxoplasma gondii. She also specializes in higher education pedagogy, particularly student transition and innovative teaching methods.
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Biology (Keele University)
- PGCE in Secondary Science (University of Southampton)
- MSc in Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine)
- BSc in Medical Biology (Brunel University)
Her research integrates molecular biology and parasitology to study malaria parasite biology, host-pathogen interactions, and redox metabolism. Recent publications highlight her work on gene silencing, Cre recombinase systems, and drug resistance mechanisms.
Teaching interests include foundational organismal biology, cell physiology, human biochemistry, and disease pathology. She currently leads the Human Biology BSc program and has developed learning tools for higher education transitions.
