معرفی
Sonja Murto is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stockholm University's Department of Meteorology (MISU), specializing in Arctic Meteorology. She works within the Dynamic Meteorology and Polar Meteorology and Oceanography research groups, focusing on atmospheric processes in polar regions.
- PhD in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography from MISU (2018-2022)
- Master's in Meteorology with thesis on aerosols' impact on heat fluxes in Beijing
- Bachelor's in Geography
Dr. Murto's research centers on Arctic climate dynamics, with particular expertise in atmospheric transport pathways of heat into the Arctic, atmospheric rivers, and sea ice melt processes. Her work combines field expeditions with data analysis from reanalysis datasets and observational studies, focusing on how mid-latitude weather systems influence Arctic climate change. She has participated in the ACAS (Arctic Climate Across Scales) project studying atmospheric dynamics behind Arctic weather extremes and currently participates in the ARTofMELT expedition investigating how atmospheric rivers initiate sea ice melt.
Sonja previously worked at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) as an assistant forecaster, researcher, and oceanographer, where she specialized in digitalizing historical Baltic Sea ice charts. Her background combines meteorological theory with practical forecasting experience and oceanographic data analysis.
