Sonia Dhaliwal is an Associate Professor of Taxation & Accounting at the Lang School of Business, University of Guelph. She holds a Master of Taxation from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Commerce from Ryerson University, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (CA). With over a decade of experience in public practice at big four firms and prior work at the Auditor General of Ontario’s office, she bridges academic rigor with real-world expertise in corporate taxation and financial audits.

She collaborates with undergraduate students on Independent Research Projects (IRPs) and co-authored studies on academic-industry partnerships, such as the 'Turf Net Present Value Model' for sustainable turfgrass systems. Her scholarly work spans tax fraud whistleblowing, SME financing, excise tax policy, and digitalization in tax administration.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to sustainability frameworks for small and medium enterprises, ethical challenges in tax compliance, and empirical analyses of tax policy impacts. She has received the 2020 Paul MacPherson Teaching Award of Excellence and actively serves on boards and committees to strengthen connections between academia and professional practice.
