Sonia Bhalotra is a Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick. She is a labour economist with research expertise in health, gender, and political economy. She is a Fellow of the International Economic Association, the Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute for Fiscal Studies London, the Centre for Economic Policy Research London, IEPS Brazil, and MLIV Chile.
Education:
- MPhil and DPhil from Oxford University
- BSc (Hons) from Delhi University
Research Interests:
Her research spans labour economics, health economics, and development economics. She focuses on maternal and child health, gender pay gaps, domestic violence, and early life interventions. Her work is set in India, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, the US, the UK, Denmark, and Sweden.
She leads the European Research Council Advanced Grant on the economics of violence against women and co-leads the wellbeing theme at the CAGE ESRC Research Centre. She is also involved in Gates Foundation and NIH projects on maternal depression and child development.
