معرفی
Songon An is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). His research focuses on the cellular biochemistry of metabolic multienzyme complexes, particularly purinosomes and glucosomes, and their roles in human diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and obesity.
- Education: B.S. in Chemistry, Yonsei University (1997); Ph.D. in Chemistry, University of Minnesota–Twin Cities (2005); Postdoctoral Research, Pennsylvania State University (2011).
His laboratory investigates how metabolic enzymes organize spatially and temporally in living cells, leveraging advanced imaging techniques like fluorescence live-cell microscopy. This work challenges traditional views of metabolic pathway operation and has implications for understanding disease mechanisms.
Recent publications highlight his contributions to glucosome dynamics, phase-separated condensates, and signaling pathways regulating enzyme complexes. He has received NIH R01 and R03 grants and was honored with the 2020 Mid-Career Faculty Excellence Award at UMBC.
- Key Scientific Awards: Mid-Career Faculty Excellence Award (2020).
Dr. An mentors a diverse group of students and scholars, including PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and undergraduate trainees. His lab actively participates in national conferences and collaborates with institutions worldwide. He also serves as an Associate Editor for journals like Experimental Cell Research and Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences.
