Solveig Klaßen

Solveig Klaßen is an Assistant Professor in Documentary Film Production at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, where she has been a Research Fellow in the film department since 2004. She also serves as the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies, overseeing academic operations.

Her research and teaching focus on documentary film, Chinese cinema, and cross-cultural storytelling. Her films explore themes like ethnographic representation, health practices, and gender dynamics, often blending cinematic and anthropological techniques. Recent works include Yoga! The Art of Living (2013) and Qi - On the Trail of Chinese Healing (2008), highlighting intersections between traditional medicine and visual media.

Notable awards include the Bavarian Documentary Film Prize, the Youth Jury Prize at the International Leipzig Festival, and a nomination for the Joris Ivens Award. She has been a jury member for international film festivals and contributed to projects like “Hollywood in Nigeria” (2003).
