Solomon Friedman serves as a Part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, while maintaining an active practice as partner at Friedman Mansour LLP specializing in criminal, quasi-criminal, and regulatory law across all Canadian courts including the Supreme Court of Canada.
He earned his law degree from the University of Ottawa (magna cum laude, 2009) followed by a clerkship at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Morris Fish. His professional development includes certification as a Specialist in Criminal Law by the Law Society of Ontario.
Friedman's expertise centers on high-stakes criminal defense, with deep specialization in firearms legislation, terrorism charges, murder cases, and dangerous offender applications. As a member of Legal Aid Ontario's Extremely Serious Criminal Matters panel, he provides representation for indigent clients in the most severe cases while actively shaping policy through testimony before Parliamentary committees.
His scholarly contributions include co-authoring the 4th edition of Annotated Firearms Act and Related Legislation (LexisNexis Canada) and regular media commentary in the National Post, Montreal Gazette, and Ottawa Citizen. At the University of Ottawa, he instructs Evidence and Advanced Criminal Evidence courses, bridging theoretical legal education with frontline courtroom experience.
