Sofie Pilemalm is a Professor in Informatics and Director of the Centre for Advanced Research in Emergency Response (CARER) at Linköping University (LiU). She holds a 20% Adjunct Professor role at the University of Agder. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on crisis management, response systems, and digitalization in public sector co-production. She leads the 8-year CARER initiative and the 'Effective Response at the Future Incident Site' program. Her academic journey includes roles as Associate Professor (2014–2020) and Senior Researcher at the Swedish Defense Research Agency (2006–2011). She earned her PhD in Informatics from LiU (2002) and is a Docent (2009).
Her research integrates organizational development, user-centered design, and volunteer initiatives to enhance emergency response systems. Notable awards include the 2023 Best Paper Award for Digitalized Co-production and the 2014 Emerald Literati Network Award. She supervises multiple PhD students across technical and philosophical disciplines, focusing on topics like ICT-enabled co-production and cross-sector collaborations in emergency response.
Key affiliations include the Department of Science and Technology (ITN) and Communications and Transport Systems (KTS). She chairs the Quantitative Logistics unit (2024–) and serves on the IFIP Electronic Government Conference board. Her work emphasizes practical applications of digitalization and participatory design in resource-scarce organizations.
