Sofie Narbed is a Lecturer in Human Geography at the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. Her work bridges cultural geography, critical dance studies, and decolonial theory, focusing on embodied practices of world-making. She holds a PhD in Cultural Geography from Royal Holloway (2016), an MA from the same institution (2011), and a BA from the University of Nottingham (2009).
Her research explores dance as a site of political and ecological relation, addressing topics such as race, intergenerational legacy in dance training, and feminist/decolonial transformations. Notable projects include her ESRC-funded doctoral work on Ecuadorian dance practices and collaborations like the GeoHumanities summer school and Tate Exchange projects. She actively engages with somatic movement education and rewilding experiments through partnerships like Wild Performatives.
Teaching spans global futures, creative geographies, and qualitative methods, with field courses in Spain, New York, and Cyprus. She serves on the AHRC Peer Review College and Latin American Geographies Research Group, contributing to Anglophone-Latin American academic dialogues.
