Harriet Hawkins is a Professor in the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is a leading figure in the geohumanities, exploring intersections between geography, arts, and humanities. Her research focuses on art worlds, environmental imaginaries, and creativity. She co-founded the Royal Holloway Centre for the GeoHumanities and chairs the Royal Geographical Society's Social and Cultural Geography Research Group.
Her work is supported by AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, and the British Academy. She has collaborated with institutions like Tate, Arts Catalyst, and Swiss Artists in Labs, producing artist books, exhibitions, and participatory projects. Hawkins has authored/co-edited influential books including For Creative Geographies and Creativity, with a forthcoming monograph on practice-based research in geography.
She supervises PhD students in creative practices and has mentored early-career researchers. Her awards include the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2016), Royal Geographical Society Gill Memorial Award (2016), and an AHRC Early Career Leadership Fellowship. She runs a wellbeing initiative for PhD students, recognized with a Royal Holloway Teaching Prize (2019).
Hawkins is Editor of Cultural Geographies and Associate Editor of GeoHumanities. As Deputy Director of the TECHNE AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership, she champions interdisciplinary research training.
