Philip Crang is a Professor of Cultural Geography at the Department of Geography, Royal Holloway, University of London. He previously served as Head of Geography (2018-2021) and currently sits on editorial boards for Geography Compass and Cultural Geographies. His research focuses on material culture, transnational geographies, consumption studies, and ethnographic methodologies.
Research Interests include the geographies of material culture, diasporic spaces, workplace geographies, and creative research practices. His work explores how commercial and material cultures shape place and identity, with a focus on fashion, food, and global commodity flows.
His recent publications analyze textile waste in Cambodia's garment industry (2020) and comfort geographies (2017). He has supervised over 40 doctoral students, supported by ESRC, AHRC, and international funding bodies.
He contributes to interdisciplinary research centres like the Royal Holloway Centre for the GeoHumanities and the Digital Organisation and Society Research Centre, advancing studies in cultural and spatial humanities.
