Sofie Lindeberg is a postdoctoral researcher in local history at the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS) at Linköping University since autumn 2025. Her research focuses on how local cultural heritage has been created and changed over time, with particular emphasis on military history museums in Linköping. She collaborates with David Ludvigsson, professor of local history, in the work of the Center for Local History.
Her research interests span multiple dimensions of cultural heritage formation. She examines how social, political, economic and cultural changes in society are reflected in how local actors handle the past in their contemporary times. Her work bridges local phenomena with national and international contexts, particularly evident in her studies of military history museums that connect to broader Swedish developments like 1990s disarmament and 2020s rearmament efforts.
Her publications reveal a consistent focus on heritage creation processes, examining how various actors over extended periods archive, collect, publish stories, and create exhibitions around specific local themes. This approach highlights the dynamic nature of cultural heritage as something actively constructed rather than passively preserved.

Lindeberg actively participates in multiple research environments including the Center for Local History, the Emergency History Network, and the School museums in Östergötland project. Her work with the Olof Skoglund Foundation-funded project 'Risinge – in the middle of the world' demonstrates her engagement with community-based historical research. She continues to develop her expertise in analyzing how historical processes shape contemporary cultural heritage understanding.
