Dr. Eldelin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Literature (1999), Master of Philosophy in Literary Studies (2000), and PhD in Communication (2006). She became Docent (Associate Professor) in Literary Studies in 2019.
Her research explores how space, location, and mobility influence writing practices and literary forms. She investigates fictional world-making as collective processes involving multiple actors, genres, and media. A significant focus is on the essay genre's history and its relationship with idleness, examining how concepts of leisure and withdrawal have shaped this literary form from Montaigne to contemporary writers. Her work bridges literary studies with cultural geography, analyzing how transit environments like subways, trains, and airports challenge traditional notions of literary creation as a private, place-bound activity.
Dr. Eldelin's recent publications reveal consistent interest in spatial dimensions of writing, particularly how transit environments serve as unexpected spaces for literary production. Her analysis spans multiple genres and geographical contexts, examining how these environments function aesthetically and politically in contemporary literature. She also explores the historical relationship between idleness and the essay genre, tracing themes of withdrawal and leisure through writers from Montaigne to Woolf and contemporary authors.
She has been recognized with the prestigious Samfundet de Nio special award in 2019, which honors deserving authors and is among the most distinguished literary awards in Sweden.
Dr. Eldelin actively supervises graduate students, including Camilla Wallin Lämsä, and has developed specialized courses such as "The Essay from Montaigne to the Media Age" and "Serial Storytelling – from serials to streaming." Her research has been funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR), including projects on writing in transit environments (2018-2021) and idleness in literary history (2013-2015). She regularly presents her work at associations, libraries, and conferences.
She is a member of the Language and Culture research environment at Linköping University, which serves as a meeting place for linguistic and literary research focused on the interaction between language and culture in everyday, literary, media, and professional contexts.
