David Ludvigsson is Professor of Local History at Linköping University's Department of Culture and Society (IKOS) and Department of History, Art History and Religious Studies (HKR) since 2023. He directs the Center for Local History and serves as co-responsible for the doctoral program in Pedagogical Work with a Subject Didactics Focus. His work bridges academic research with community engagement, working closely with schools, local history associations, and cultural institutions across Östergötland.
Ludvigsson's research focuses on local perspectives in historical studies, emphasizing how local history can contribute to broader regional, national, and transnational analyses. He investigates tensions between academic and non-academic local history, exploring how historical narratives serve different community needs. His work particularly examines local history as a resource for children in schools and for elderly populations, addressing previously overlooked perspectives in historical accounts.

Ludvigsson has secured research funding from multiple prestigious sources including the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish National Heritage Board, the Swedish Institute for School Research, and the Ridderstad Foundation. He supervises numerous doctoral students across history and educational research fields. His international experience includes visiting researcher positions at UNC Chapel Hill, the University of Calcutta, and Sheffield Hallam University. Ludvigsson also leads several research environments including the Center for Local History and the Didactics in Social Studies research environment (DISA).
