Sofia Österborg Wiklund is a Research Fellow at Umeå University, affiliated with the Department of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies. Funded by the Swedish Research Council, her postdoctoral work investigates the historical intersections of Swedish international aid and popular education, focusing on Nordic identity construction and exclusion mechanisms in aid worker training from 1960–1990. She also contributes to emerging fields like Neurodiversity Studies and Critical ADHD Studies through norm-critical educational research.
- Master’s degree in Social Science and Cultural Analysis
- PhD in Education from Linköping University (2019)
Her research spans educational history, decolonial pedagogy, and neurodiversity, with recent publications addressing neurodivergent inclusion in academia, ADHD narratives, and critical analysis of Swedish development aid education programs. Current projects examine identity formation in Swedish folk high schools and transnational solidarity frameworks.
Recent publications highlight her dual focus on historical educational analysis and neurodiversity advocacy, including interdisciplinary collaborations with research groups like Humanities Studies in Education (University of Oslo). She actively challenges deficit perspectives in ADHD studies and promotes inclusive research methodologies.
