Sofia Hamberg serves as a University lecturer at Linköping University, holding joint appointments in the Department of Economic and Industrial Development (IEI) and the Department of Political Science. Concurrently, she is a PhD candidate in political science, researching the societal impacts of digitalization on public institutions and service delivery.
Her doctoral work examines how digital transformation reshapes social institutions, with specific focus on open government data fragmentation in food systems during local crises. As a core member of the Resilient Institutions in a Digital Era (RIDE) research group, she investigates sustainable welfare models amid rapid technological change, emphasizing practical applications for public service resilience.
Dr. Hamberg's research expertise spans Digitalization and Society, Public Administration, and Crisis Management, specializing in data-driven solutions for emergency response systems. Her 2025 publication at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences exemplifies her interdisciplinary approach, bridging political science and information systems to address real-world governance challenges in food security contexts.
Within the RIDE initiative, she collaborates extensively with colleagues across departments—including Professor Elin Wihlborg (her co-author) and Senior Lecturer Charlotte Fridolfsson—to develop frameworks for institutional resilience through digital innovation, particularly in public service delivery during societal disruptions.
